Safety instructions
Electrical equipment must only be installed
and assembled by a qualied electrician in ac-
cordance with the relevant installation stand-
ards, guidelines, regulations, directives, safety
and accident prevention regulations of the
country.
Failure to comply with these instructions may
result in damage to the device, re or other
hazards.
Hazard due to electric shock. Do not operate
device without application module.
Hazard due to electric shock. The device is not
suited for safe disconnection of the mains
supply. Even when the device is switched o,
the load is not galvanically separated from the
mains supply.
Do not connect any non-dimmable lamps, their
transformers or operating devices. Observe
manufacturer's data.
Hazard of re. During operation with conven-
tional transformers, fuse each transformer on
the primary side according to manufacturer's
data. Use safety transformers that comply with
EN 61558-2-6 (VDE 0570 Part 2-6) only.
These instructions are an integral component
of the product and must be retained by the end
user.

Function
Correct usage
 - Switching and dimming of incandescent lamps,
HV halogen lamps and dimmable 230 V LED
lamps; electronic or dual-mode transformers
with low voltage halogen lamps
 - Additionally for switch insert 2gang:
Switching dimmable energy-saving lamps
 - Suitable for mixed loads up to the specied
total capacity (see “Technical data”)
 - Only suitable for use in indoor areas with no
drip and no spray water.
 - Installation into wall box according to
DIN 49073 (recommendation: deep box)
 - Operate with suitable application module
(see Accessories)
No mixed load operation of capacitive and
inductive loads possible at the output.
Product characteristics
 - Automatic setting of load-dependent switching
principle and additional, optional settings via
the application module e.g. for dimmable 230 V
LED lamps
 - Soft start for bulb protection
 - Electronic short circuit protection
 - Electronic overload and overheating protection
 - Electronic interference signal suppression
e.g. for ripple control impulses
Additional product characteristics for switch insert
1gang:
 - Extension unit input also suitable for motion
detector extension units (see “Accessories”)
Additionally for switch insert 2gang:
 - Dierent load types possible at the outputs
 - Connection power at the outputs independent
from each other
 - Possible to operate only output 1
 - Connection of push-button extension units
(NO contact) possible for each output
Information on switching behaviour
 Only use dimmable loads.
Short term ickering during load detection of
ohmic loads possible. No operation is possible
during load detection. These are not defects of
the device.
Flickering of connected lamps possible due to
the load falling below the specied minimum
level, ripple control impulses from power sta-
tions, or replacement of 230 V LED lamps and
(for switch insert 2gang) energy-saving lamps.
If the switching performance of 230 V LED
lamps in the factory setting is unsatisfactory,
load setting must be carried out.
► See operating instructions of the application
module.
When connecting several loads to one output
(parallel connection), optimise switching perfor-
mance via the load setting if necessary.
Operation
These instructions describe the installation of the
switch inserts. Refer to the operating manual of
the appropriate application module for information
on operation and load adjustment.
The operation of extension units is only possi-
ble if an application module is attached to the
main unit.
Information for electricians
Installation and electrical connection
 DANGER!
Electrical shock when live parts are
touched.
An electric shock can lead to death.
Isolate all power before working on the
device and cover any live parts in the
area!
 CAUTION!
Do not interconnect the outputs of switch
insert 2gang.
Operating both outputs on a joint load
will destroy the device.
Connecting and mounting the switch insert
An MCB of max. 16 A has been installed as device
protection.
Connect the switch insert and optional exten-
sion units according to the connection diagram
(Figures 3 to 6).
The switch insert 1gang, possesses an optional
N terminal (Figures 3 and 4). Operation without
neutral conductor possible.
On the switch insert 1gang a load must be
connected to output 1 as a power supply.
 Illuminated mechanical push-button extension
units must be equipped with a separate
N terminal.
Power reduction per 10°C over 25°C for switch
insert 1gang: approx. -8%
Power reduction per 5°C over 25°C for switch
insert 2gang: -10 ... -30%
Mixed loads possible to lowest maximum load.
Power data for LED lamps are typical values
for 230 V mains voltage.
   Switch insert 1gang:
For LED loads of 50 W or more, we recom-
mend operation in “LED mode 2”. ► See oper-
ating instructions of the application module.
If the switching behaviour here is not satis-
factory, then, alternatively the “Load factory
setting” or “LED mode 1” can be selected.
Note: In “LED mode 1”, the connection output
is typically limited to 60 W, depending on the
LED!
Do not use non-dimmable energy-saving lamps
or 230 V LED lamps.
In 230 V LED lamps, the power supply to the
switch insert can cause the lamp to glow slight-
ly even when it is switched o.
 Conventional transformers should be operated
with at least 50% nominal load. Nonetheless,
75% is recommended because in individual
cases, depending on the transformer, unstable
switching performance may occur.
Carry out loading of conventional, electronic
and dual-mode transformers according to man-
ufacturer's instructions.
Only use motion detector extension units if a
switching insert 1gang, is operated with a suita-
ble motion detector application module
(see “Accessories”).
Mount the switch insert into a wall box (rec-
ommendation: Deep box). The connecting
terminals must be at the bottom.
Attach the frame and application module.
► See operating instructions of the application
module.

Troubleshooting
Device switches o and can no longer be
switched on after a certain time.
Electronic overheating protection has triggered.
Reduce connected load.
Check the installation situation.
Device briey switches o and on again.
Short circuit protection has triggered, but in the
meantime there is no longer a fault.
Switch insert 1gang switches both outputs o.
Load at output 1 is defective and interrupts the
power supply of the joint switch insert.
Repair load at output 1.
