General Description

Developed for computer voice recognition applications, the 503BG microphone

offersexcellent voice fidelity while reducing background noise. Also use the

503BG in otherclose-talking applications suchas paging andtalkback.

The 503BG featuresa low-impedance, movingcoil type transducerwithan

integral humbuckingcoil and an attached two-conductorshielded cable with

abuilt-instrain relief.Itproduces afrequency response withan essentially

constantoutputvoltage overthevoice spectrumwhenused closeto the

sound source.

The503BG'scase isaluminumwith ablack enamelfinish.It mountstoa

gooseneck, a fixedpipe ora microphone standusing a standard5/8"-27

thread. To secure the mounted BG503, tighten the 4-40 screw with the sup-

plied #4Allen (hex-head) wrench.

Operation

For best performance,speak as closeto the503BG as comfortpermits. A

distance of 1to 5cm (0.4 to2 inches) providesthe greatest discriminations

between voice andbackground noise.

Acoustic Considerations

The 503BG maximizesperformance in close-talking applications through its

tailored frequencyresponse,directionalityand distancediscrimination. It

optimizes and controlssounds within the100 to7000 Hz frequencyrange

and reducessounds outside that range.The BG503 rejectsnoise through

its inherent directionalpropertiesand discriminatesagainst distant sounds

in favor ofclose-range sounds.
