INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of the PALMER PCABM1 CAB MERGER.
This little box will be a most effective and useful tool in your arsenal for connecting two
loudspeaker cabinets to an amplier with a single speaker output jack only. What’s more, it
allows for either parallel or serial connection. Proper use requires The PALMER Cab Merger
is entirely passive and does not color your sound.
WARNING: To avoid damage to your amplier follow these instructions carefully.
INSTRUCTIONS
Before using the Cab Merger make sure the loudspeaker cabinets have the same impedance
ratedinohms(Ω).Donotmixcabinetswithdifferentimpedances.
A – Verifying amplier output impedance and loudspeaker compatibility
The total speaker load must match the output impedance of the amplier. This is usually
specied next to the output jack. Some ampliers also feature an impedance selector switch
on the back panel.
Example:Iftheamplifier’soutputimpedanceis8Ω(fixedorselected)youcanrunitwithtwo
4Ωcabinetsinseries,orwithtwo16Ωcabinetsinparallel.
B - Calculating speaker load
Use the chart top right on the Cab Merger to calculate the total load of the cabinets, e.g. two
8Ωcabinetsinparallel=4Ω,ortwo8Ωcabinetsinseries=16Ω.
C - Connection
Using quality loudspeaker cables only, connect the amplier output to the parallel input (1)
or the series input (2) of the Cab Merger depending on the desired speaker conguration.
Now connect the loudspeaker cabinets to the Cab Merger outputs cab 1 (3) and cab 2 (4).
Always verify amplier and loudspeaker impedance ratings and refer to the load calculation
chart for compatibility!
NOTE: Never use both Cab Merger inputs simultaneously.
