Switch Operation – See Figure 1
Helix Backcountry Rechargeable has two
main light sources to choose from,
one white Maxbright LED or two color
Ultrabright LEDs. Each light source is
dimmable.
Swipe to the right to activate white
light. Swipe to the left to activate color
light. One swipe engages dimmable
high power mode; two swipes engage
medium power and three swipes
engage flash mode. With high power
mode engaged, dimming is achieved by
holding fingertip on sensor. After two
seconds in any mode, left or right swipe
turns lantern off.
Lantern Globe Removal and Installation
Figure 3, Figure 4: Lantern globe is
removable to convert Helix Backcountry
Rechargeable into a spotlight or for globe
cleaning. To begin globe removal, turn
lantern over and press down on two of the
globe attachment clasps. Once clasps are
released globe can be removed.
To install globe, engage tab into slot
on body and snap down all three
clasps at once.
Lantern Globe - Compressing and Opening
Figure 5: 1a- 2b To compress lantern,
push globe toward lantern body. Hook
one side of top clasp into lantern body
and then roll top of lantern to lock globe
into compressed position.
1a-2b To open, roll one side of top clasp
off catch, then allow globe to extend into
open position.
Troubleshooting
If the Helix Backcountry Rechargeable
fails to light:
• Check charge state of battery by
plugging into power source and
observing battery charge level LEDs
under lantern globe.
• Check the light for water
contamination on the circuit board.
The light will resume normal
operation once the water is shaken
or blown out and the light is left until
completely dry. If the light has been
contaminated with salt water, flush
the unit with fresh water and dry as
described above.

Battery Charging -
See Figure 2
Supplied with Lantern:
• Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery,
micro-USB charging cable.
Princeton Tec cares about the
environment and recommends
recycling batteries. For more information
about battery recycling, please go to:
www.batteryrecycling.com
To charge battery pack, open USB door
and plug in micro USB cord; connect
other end of cable to USB power source
such as charger or computer.
Princeton Tec suggests using a charger
with output of 5V, 1A. This charger
will fully charge the battery pack in
3 to 4 hours. Slower charging will be
achieved with a charger rated for lower
amperage. Some computer USB ports
may not have sufficient output to
charge this or any USB rechargeable
product. Under normal usage, the
supplied lithium ion battery pack will
last for approximately 1,000 charge /
discharge cycles.
Green battery charge level LEDs under
globe indicate battery state. Charge
level is indicated by 1, 2 or 3 LEDs,
representing roughly 33%, 66% and
100% charge states. If the charge
level LEDs begin flashing during
charging, please briefly disconnect the
micro USB cable, and then reconnect
to restart charging. If flashing
continues, move your lantern to a
cooler environment before continuing
charging.
Do not remove the screws holding
the lantern cabinet together. There
are no user serviceable parts inside
the lantern.
General Care and Warnings
• Properly charge the battery to
maximize its lifespan. Lithium
ion batteries do not suffer from a
“memory effect,” and for battery
longevity it is preferable to charge
more frequently if possible, rather
than to fully deplete the battery’s
charge;
• To avoid damaging your lighting
system, use only chargers that meet
the approved specifications.
• Helix Backcountry Rechargeable,
battery pack and cable are not
submersible. Submerging in water
will damage the system and void the
warranty.
• To keep your lighting system looking
new, use a mild soap and water
solution with a rag or sponge to
periodically wipe off dirt.
