General Description

The Shure UA860V is a passive, ground-reference omnidirectional VHF an-

tennaforuse withVHF wirelesssystems.

Installation

•Choose alocation forinstalling theantenna thatfollows theproper

guidelines forcabling andantenna placement.

•Connect theprovided UA8antenna tothe topplate ofthe UA860V.

•Connectthe UA860Vto thereceiver orantenna distributionsystem.

•Mount theUA860V to amicrophone stand. Forbest performance,keep

the antennaupright andthe groundingplate horizontal.

Cable Maintenance

Tomaintain topperformance forantenna cables:

•Avoid sharpbends orkinks inthe cables.

•Do not deform cableswith makeshift clamps, such as bending a nail over

the cable.

•Do notuse inpermanent outdoorinstallations.

•Do notexpose toextreme moisture.

SelectingAntenna Cables

Use 50 ohm low-losscoaxial cable, such asRG-8U. Shure offerspre-termi-

nated antenna cables ranging from6 to100 feet.

Antenna Placement

Use thefollowing guidelineswhen mountingantennas:

•Receivers, amplifiers, andother accessories mustbe ratedforuse within

the samefrequency rangeas theantenna.

•Mount antennasone wavelength(1.75 m) apart.at least

•Keep antennasaway frommetal objects.

•Position antennasso thereis nothingobstructing aline ofsight tothe

transmitter (includingthe audience).

•Place antennasas closeas possibleto transmitter,such asto theside

of thestage (insteadof afront ofhouse location).

•Forcable runs exceeding50 feet(15 meters),an in-lineamplifier (Shure

UA834) mightbenecessarytocompensatefor signalloss.

Important: Always perform a"walk around"test toverify coveragebefore

using awirelesssystemduring aspeech orperformance. Experimentwith

antenna placement to find the optimum location. If necessary, mark "trouble

spots" andask presentersor performersto avoidthose areas.
