For Use by Competent Persons
Anyone using this instrument should be knowledgeable and trained about the
risks involved with measuring voltage, especially in an industrial setting, and the
importance of taking safet y precautions and of testing the instrument before and
after using it to ensure that it is in good working condition.
SAFETY INFORMATION
WARNING: Use extreme caution when testi ng live electrical cir cuits due to risk
of injury from electrical shock.
Warnings and Precautions
Do not exceed t he maximum overload limits (see specifications) nor the limits •
marked on the instrument it self. Never apply more than 600 V ac rms.
Observe the proper safety precautions when working with voltages above 30 •
VAC rms to avoid electrical shock hazard.
Before and after hazardous voltage measurements, test the detector on a •
known source such as line voltage to determine proper operation.
Never ground yourself when taking measurements. Do not touch exposed •
circuit elements.
Do not operate the instrument in an explosive atmosphere.•
Do not expose this product to rain or moisture. This increases the risk of fire •
or electric shock.
Do not rely on this tester for detecting AC voltage on a shielded wire.•
Comply with local and national safety requirements.•
Use proper protective equipment as required by local or national authorities.•
INTRODUCTION
VP-600SB is an instrument for safely checking the presence of an AC volt age
without making any disconnections in cables, wall sockets, fuses, circuit breakers,
junction boxes, et c. No current flow is needed for correct operation. When
voltage is detected, the tip will illuminate, and t he unit will also beep and vibrate.
OPERATION
Apply the plastic tip t o any connection point or move it along an insulated cable.
When an AC voltage is det ected, the red indicator in the plastic tip will illuminate.
A steady glow (not flash), sound and vibration indicates that voltage is present. If
there is no indication, voltage could still be present. Operation may be affected
by differences in socket design and thickness and type of insulation.
Caution: If three phase equipment is being checked and one phase is open,
the voltage is conducted back to the defective fuse through the other fuses and
will give a faulty indication.
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
If there appears to be a malfunction during the operation of the probe, the
following steps should be performed in order to isolat e the cause of the problem:
Check the battery. 1.
Review the operating instructions for possible mistakes in operating 2.
procedure.
Except for the replacement of t he batteries, repair of the voltage detector should
be performed only by a Factory Authorized Service Center or by other qualified
instrument service personnel. The front panel and case can be cleaned with a mild
solution of detergent and water. Apply sparingly with a soft cloth and allow to
dry completely before using. Do not use aromatic hydrocarbons or chlorinated
solvents for cleaning.
Battery Replacement
Use flat blade screwdriver to remove the cap. Remove batteries and replace with
(2) AAA 1.5 volts alkaline batteries. Replace the cap.
