 IRL/UK: Set up
The “Viper TTL receiver” is used together with “Viper TTL transmitter” or “Modus 
600RT”.
•  Attach Speedlight to <hot shoe> 10  of the Viper TTL receiver. Using the slide 
switch 16  select one of the group A, B or C for this receiver. Turn on 12  the 
Viper TTL receiver which will give a green ashing light 11  to indicate power 
is on. Turn on the Speedlight. Press <Test> button 15  on receiver to conrm 
Speedlight is working
•  Using the cable socket 14  a studio light can be connected to the Viper TTL 
receiver via a “Hähnel Studio Light Cable” which is available as a separate 
accessory
•  Unlimited numbers of Speedlights / studio lights with Viper TTL receivers can 
be allocated to one or different groups
•  For “Nikon” version, set the Nikon Speedlight to <i-TTL> mode
DCM Digital Channel Matching
•  Open channel - When you use the Viper TTL for the rst time, the 2.4GHz 
wireless connection is using a default “open channel”. This allows several 
transmitters to individually control the same selection of receivers. The “open 
channel” can be useful when using several cameras with the same lighting 
system. But it is also more prone to other outside interferences
•  DCM - Digital Channel Matching is a more secure coded wireless system 
which will avoid any external interference between Viper TTL transmitter and 
receiver. Carry out the following set up to match all your devices
•  A - Turn off both Viper TTL transmitter and receiver
•  B - <Test> button  Hold down  on the transmitter and turn ON “transmitter”. 
LED on the transmitter will ash rapidly, release the test button and LCD on 
the transmitter will display “coding”
•  C  <Test> button- Now hold down receiver   
15  and turn ON 12  “receiver”. The 
LED 11  will ash green rapidly. Release <Test> button 15. The LED  06  will 
change to red ON all the time conrming DCM is completed
•  D - If you have additional Viper TTL receivers, then repeat stage “C”. (Viper 
TTL transmitter must still be in “coding”)
•  If you are using the Viper TTL in combination with the hähnel Modus 600RT 
Speedlight, you can still DCM all devices. Use the same procedure from A to D and 
then also DCM match the Modus 600RT as a slave version as explained in Modus 
manual
•  It is possible to reset the Viper TTL transmitter and receiver to “open channel”
•  Hold down <Test> button on transmitter and turn ON transmitter and continue to 
hold down button on transmitter for more than 5 sec. LED on transmitter will change 
from rapid ashing to always ON. Transmitter is now “open channel”
•  Now hold down receiver <Test> button 15 and turn ON receiver and continue to 
hold down button 15  for more than 5 sec. LED  11  will change from rapid ashing to 
always ON. Receiver is now “open channel”
•  If you wish to use old 3rd party Speedlight’s which are not E-TTL or i-TTL compatible, 
then set switch 16  to Group “C” whilst performing the reset of the Receiver to “open 
channel”. This allows 3rd party Speedlight’s to be triggered in Speedlight “M” mode.
