Essential Information
Location ofSpare Tireand ToolsYourvehicle is equippedwith a temporary spare tire which
issmaller than aregular tireand designedfor emergencyuse only.Thejack, sparetire, jack handle and
lug nutwrench are underthe cargocoverin thetrunk ofthe vehicle.
Fuses Ifyour electricalcomponents aren’tworking properly,a fuse mayhave blown. For more
information,please consultyourOwner’s Guide.
FuelPumpShut-offSwitch This device stops theelectric fuel pump from sending fuel to the
engine when yourvehicle has hadasubstantial jolt. Afteran accident, ifthe engine cranksbutdoes
notstart, this switch may have been activated.The fuel pump shut-off switch islocated in the front
passenger footwell areain therightupper corner.
UnleadedFuelRecommendations Foroptimumperformance use“Regular” unleadedfuel
with apump(R+M)/2 octanerating ofat least87.We donot recommendthe useof gasolineslabeled
as “Regular”with octaneratings of86 orlowerthatare soldin highaltitude areas.
TirePressure Safe operation ofyour Montego requires thatyourtires be properly inflated.The
Mercury recommended inflation pressure is found onthe Tire Label orthe CertificationLabel located
near the front door latch on the driver’s side.Atleast once a month and beforelongtrips, inspect each
tire and check the air pressure witha digitalor dial-type tiregauge.Don’t forgetthe spare.Air pressure
should be checked when thetires are cold. Inflate all tires to the inflationpressure recommended by
Ford MotorCompany.
RearWindowBuffeting When oneor both ofyour rear windows arefully open, youmay
experience awind throbor buffeting noise.This iscommon among allvehicles andcan beeliminated
simply bylowering afrontwindow twoto threeinches.
RoadsideAssistance Inaddition toyourNew Vehicle Limited Warranty, Mercuryprovides new
vehicle ownerswith a complimentary roadside assistance program.This service is available24 hours
a day,sevendays aweek,forthree years or36,000miles (60,000 km).It covers changingaflat tire,
jumpstarts,limitedfuel delivery,lock-outassistance,winch out,and towing ofyour vehicle.

Power Mirrors To adjust your mirrors, rotate the control clockwise to adjust the
right mirrorandcounterclockwise toadjusttheleft mirror.Move the control in the
directionyou wishto tiltthe mirror. Thenrotatethe controlto thecenterposition to
lock themirrorsin place.
Keyless Entry PadThe keyless entry keypad canbe used to lock or unlock the
doorswithout usinga key. It canalso controlthe memoryseat, powermirrors,and
adjustablepedalsfeatures(if equipped).Formoreinformation,please consultyour
Owner’s Guide.
Autolock Yourvehicle is equippedwith anautolock feature.The autolock featurewill automatically
lock all doors when your vehicle is in motion and meets a set of conditions, as described in your
Owner’s Guide.Your vehicle comes withthis feature enabled.You can enableor disable this feature
by followingthe activation ordeactivationprocedure outlinedin yourOwner’s Guide.
AdjustablePedals (if equipped):The acceleratorand brake pedal shouldonly be adjusted when
the vehicle is stopped and the gearshift is in the P (Park)position. Press the top of the controlto adjust
thepedals away fromyou orpress thebottomofthe controlto adjustthe pedalstoward you.
ReverseSensing System (if equipped)The ReverseSensingSystem(RSS) soundsatoneto warn
thedriverofobstaclesnear therearbumper whenR(Reverse) isselected andthevehicle ismovingat
speeds less than3 mph (5km/h). Thesystem is noteffective atspeedsabove 3mph (5 km/h)and
maynotdetectcertainangularormovingobjects. TheRSS detectsobstaclesupto6 feet(2meters)
fromthe rear bumper witha decrease coverage area at the outer corners of the bumper. Whenthe
obstacleis lessthan10inches away, thetone willsound continuously.
